Analysis & CountingAbout the Word Frequency Counter
The Word Frequency Counter tokenizes your text into individual words, normalizes them to lowercase, strips surrounding punctuation (commas, periods, quotes), and tallies how many times each word appears. It then sorts the results by descending frequency and displays the top 20 words alongside a visual bar chart. Density percentage is calculated as (occurrences ÷ total words) × 100, giving you an at-a-glance view of keyword saturation. SEO professionals use this to check whether a target keyword appears at a natural 1–3% density, while editors use it to catch repetitive phrasing — if "however" appears 12 times in a 500-word piece, it is a signal to vary transitions. Single-character tokens ("a", "I") are excluded to keep results meaningful. Contractions and hyphenated words are preserved as single tokens.
Are punctuation marks included in the word count?▾
No — punctuation is automatically stripped so that "design" and "design," are counted as the same word. Apostrophes and hyphens within words are preserved.
How is the density percentage calculated?▾
Density is the number of times a word appears divided by the total number of words (excluding single-character words), expressed as a percentage and rounded to the nearest integer.
How many top words are shown?▾
The tool displays the top 20 most frequent words by default, sorted by count in descending order. A visual bar chart makes it easy to compare relative frequency.
